Stemming from a research on the anthropophagy theme, this exhibition takes the form of a curatorial essay occupying two spaces in Belleville and creating a tension between them through the principle of otherness: the Emmanuel Hervé gallery and the independent art space La Maudite.

The exhibition, as much a restitution as an interrogation on the state of this research made by the curator, approaches the anthropophagic idea as an attempt to problematize the Brazil-Europe relationship and its activation deriving from the duality theme. Would it be possible to relate the anthropophagic motif to the problematic of the difference? To a new questioning of Western values?

Above all, we need to understand this strange fact: the idea of anthropophagy is a sketch of the answer to the conflictual relationship between local and foreign elements, between the inside and the outside. The action of eating (swallowing and digesting) involves a transmutation of the one who eats; consequently, there is no inside that is not formed of what comes from the outside.

Thus, in the Emmanuel Hervé gallery, a selection of works coming mainly from the gallerist's personal collection will be shown at this occasion. To this selection, we added an invitation to artists Daniel Steegmann Mangrané, Julia Rometti and Victor Costales, as well as Stefan A. Pedersen, Stephanie Syjuco, Guillaume Vieira and Sérgio Verastegui, who will be showing their works in the premises of La Maudite.
